Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) party led by Douglas Mwonzora seems to have few takers in Masvingo after fielding only one candidate for the August 23 parliamentary elections.
Masvingo province has 26 parliamentary constituencies, yet only Bonface Mazarire is standing on the party ticket in Masvingo Urban constituency.
Masvingo Urban is hotly contested with five candidates seeking to win the seat.
Others who successfully filed their nomination papers are CCC’s Martin Mureri, ZANU PF’s Wellington Mawende and Smart Muneri Muneri of the United Zimbabwe Alliance. Masvingo City Council mayor, Collin Maboke, is standing as an independent after being disqualified by the CCC.
While Mwonzora’s party only managed one candidate, CCC has candidates in all the province’s constituencies.
United Zimbabwe Alliance managed to field two candidates, with the other one being Magret Mutswunguma in Chivi North. The same applies to the Lovemore Madhuku led National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) party which fielded Madock Chivasa in Bikita West and Vhurande Mahlupeko in Chiredzi East constituency.
Mwonzora gained notoriety after he recalled legislators and councillors that sided with Chamisa.
