No, these are not the correct figures of registered voters in Zimbabwe

By ZimTracker

Figures of registered voters to partake in the August 23 harmonised elections doing rounds on social media are fake, our fact check reveals.

The figures which show a cumulative 5 778,291 voters from both urban and rural areas, have been used to predict the outcome of the polls, igniting intense debate across many social media platforms.

However, these are not the current figures of registered voters.

The elections management body, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, has also disowned the figures on its official Twitter account.

“This post did not emanate from the ZEC office and the Commission distances itself from such. Members of the public are discouraged from abusing the ZEC logo for personal gains,” said ZEC.

However, the body did not give the correct, updated figures of registered voters in the country.
