It has been claimed on social media that Citizens Coalition for Change presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa said he would only serve one term if he is elected President of Zimbabwe on August 23.

We fact checked that claim and found this is what he said at the 38th minute of his speech in Gweru city:

“Ini handidi kugara pazvigaro ini kana ini ndangoita basa rangu cheza, five years ndarova basa, vakomana, ndagadzira nyika, ndoda kusiya Nyika panaka ndotanga kundoita zvanguo. (I do not want to overstay in power. If elected, I will serve for five years, put the house in order and step down to start my own things.)

“Zvandinenge ndichiita zve development ndichiparidza vhangeri. Ini ndakadanwa na Jesu, handei kudenga veduwe. Izvozvi ndiri kuti handei kuYellow but kudenga ndokune basa rose. Ndendapedza basa umwe wopinda, ushe madzoro hunoravanwa. Vatungamiri ma bhareta anochinjanwa, I hairstyle hairambi une imwe chete. Zimbabwe ine one hairstyle, iwo mabraids iwayo ava rasta manje, kubva 1980.

(I will start preaching the gospel. Right now I am saying vote for CCC, but heaven is the big deal. After five years I will be done and someone takes over. Leadership is about giving others a chance. Leaders are like hats, you change them. You cannot remain with one hairstyle forever. Zimbabwe has had one hairstyle since 1980. Those braids have turned into rasta.)

Chamisa is a lawyer by profession and was also ordained as a pastor after completing a diploma in theology.

Mari iriko it is the leadership that is lacking. Exam fees inofanirwa kubhadharwa nehurumende nevacho vari ku examiner, kubata chibharo vabereki. (The money is there, it is the leadership that is lacking. Government should pay exam fees as well as pay the examiners. Failure to do so is like raping parents.)

CALA

Nyaya yema CALA ( Continuous Assessment Learning Activities) kubata vabereki chibharo kuvadzosera ku Sub A. Isu tichangopinda musi wa24 hakuna ma CALA. (On the issue of CALA, its like abusing the parents and bringing them back to Sub A. Once we get into power on 24 August, we will do away with the CALA).
