A recent online advert claiming that technology and telecommunications company Econet is offering loans, is a scam.

The advert, mainly circulating on social media networking platform WhatsApp, is fake.

Titled, ‘Ecocash Instant Loan’ (in caps), the message reads;

“ECOCASH is Giving Out Instant Loans Up To $500 To All its Willing Customers As Way Of Empowering Local Businesses. Dont miss out Tap Below To Get Yours🎉*

Upon filling-in your details, the site asks you to share the message to six groups or fifteen people as a condition to redeem the ‘loan.’

However, the website is flagged as risky by anti-malware software.
