A poster trending on WhatsApp groups insinuates that leading chickens producer, Irvine’s Zimbabwe (IZIM), is looking for new contract farmers.
Under the contract farming scheme, IZIM provides the chicks, transport; feed, vaccines; cleaning chemicals, technical expertise and later buys the birds while the farmer just provides the fowl runs, land and labour-something that makes the program lucrative and a low hanging fruit.
Many farmers and potential farmers have made enquiries with Irvine’s concerning the undated poster.
However, the poster was an old one and taken out of context, enquiries with Irvine’s revealed.
“Unfortunately we are currently not taking new contract growers as we are fully subscribed,” IZIM told Zimtracker.
